SHRM to conduct seminar on alcohol, drug-free workplace
The Commonwealth’s chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management, the CNMI’s professional personnel organization, will be holding a half-day seminar on Nov. 16 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel with a theme focusing on a drug- and alcohol-free workplace.
The organization’s annual conference will also explore the legal and administrative aspects of implementing a comprehensive drug testing program.
Speakers will include lawyer Marcia Schultz, from Carlsmith Ball, who will discuss the related drug issues; Frank Ada, CNMI Office of Personnel Management, who will explain the structure and operation of an alcohol and drug free workplace policy; and Gloria Cabrera, from the CNMI Community Guidance Center, who will provide information on available assistance programs and how to identify problem symptoms. Richard Pierce, former special assistant for drugs and substance abuse, will be the keynote speaker.
This is an excellent opportunity for SHRM members to meet and talk with leaders in the community who are active in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse. Members are encouraged to attend to help represent the chapter and to participate in and benefit from the discussions. Non-members in the business community are invited to learn more about the organization and improve their human resource knowledge.
Prospective members and companies or individuals interested in the discussion topic are invited to attend. This week’s luncheon meeting will be held at the Gilligan’s Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 16. The cost for the seminar and luncheon is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
