Samoa gov’t staff to work through lunch in Samoa
Apia (Samoa Observer/PINA Nius Online) – The government is stepping up its efforts to ensure that its departments improve the delivery of services to the people of Samoa. Departments will now be asked to allocate a number of employees to work through lunch hours, thus ensuring that services are not interrupted during this time.
Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegao announced this latest initiative which he said was all part of plans to ensure the effective delivery of services to the public. Tuilaepa confirmed that four government departments have already rostered employees to work during lunch hours.
These are the Treasury Department, Customs Department, Prime Minister’s Department and the Births and Deaths Division of the Justice Department.
Tuilaepa said that this will happen in every government department in the near future. This move comes at a time when many students are looking for part or full time jobs.
A number of scholarship students from New Zealand and Australia have returned for the holidays and are now employed by government departments. Several University of the South Pacific students were also employed by government departments when they returned from Fiji earlier this year.
