Hyatt Regency Saipan general manager Mustafa Issa was handed yesterday the Employer of the Year award by the Commonwealth’s Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Managament during the professional personnel organization’s monthly meeting at the Gilligan’s.

SHRM chapter president Frank L. Gibson led the human resources group in honoring the HRS general manager for living up to the principal goals and objectives of the entire SHRM organization.

HRS director for Human Resources Josephine Mesta described her supervisor as a “supportive and caring” employer, constantly interested in the welfare and improvement of his staff.

“I can never forget that time when he said to me: “If it’s not good enough for me, it’s not good enough for my staff.” From this statement, he revealed that he values his staff, and he is very open-minded about our concerns. I am sure my colleagues feel the same way,” said Ms. Mesta.

She added that her employer has always been interested in learning from every employee.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Issa said that Hyatt’s most indispensable asset is the staff that keeps the establishment afloat.

“The true asset of one company is its human resources,” said Mr. Issa, as he took time to extend his gratitude to employees who have contributed to HRS’ smooth operations.

He also advised employers to have an open mind about the opinions and recommendations of their staff.

“Spend some time listening to them. You will be amazed at how much you can learn from them. The success of the Hyatt team has always been based on the open communication we all share,” he said.

Yesterday’s recognition ceremony also honored Employees of the Year awardees from the Tinian Municipal Council, Commonwealth Health Center, Hafa Adai Hotel, and Hyatt.
