From 1998 to year 2000, the Office of the Vocational Rehabilitation noted the dramatic increase on the total number of individuals with disabilities who received various assistance packages from the agency.

Based on the FY 2000 Annual Report released by the OVR since 1998, the agency has already extended assistance to at least 450 individuals of different ethnicity and age group.

Under the consumer profile of the report, OVR in 1998 served more than 130 consumers, 157 in 1999, and 162 in 2000. Of the these, 62 percent are Chamorro, 15 percent are Carolinians, seven percent are Palauan and three percent are Chuukese.

These consumers, according to director Felicitas Abraham, received services under the Basic Support and Supported Employment programs of the OVR.

Unmarried individuals who received BS and SE assistance ranked the highest with 67 percent in 1998, 54 percent in 1999, and 50 percent in 2000. This was followed by individuals who are married with 22, 27, and 38 percents in 1998, 1999, and 2000 respectively.

The report further disclosed that almost 37 percent of the said number are between 20 to 34 years old, followed by 35-44 years old with 22 percent and 20 percent are individuals who were under 20 years of age.

Due to the continued increase of service referrals and technical assistance rendered by the OVR to its consumers, the agency has exceeded the standards and performance indicators required by the Core Indicators of Performance established under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998.

For FY2000, OVR has exemplary exceeded its performance indicators on the areas of number of individuals exiting the VR program who achieved an employment outcome; percentage of those who exit the VR program in competitive, self, or employment with earnings equivalent to at least the minimum wage, among others.
