For theft Tinian man gets four years jail time
A 34-year-old man who pled guilty to theft and burglary charges was sentenced last week to four years jail imprisonment for breaking into a Tinian couple’s residence last October 19, 2000.
Joseph Cepeda Cruz from Tinian has been ordered to serve a 15-year jail term, all suspended but four years on the condition that he be placed on probation for a period of ten years.
Had Mr. Cruz pled not guilty to the criminal charges, he would have faced up to 45 years in prison.
Superior Court Associate Judge Timothy Bellas issued the order on further conditions that Mr. Cruz obey criminal laws, report to the Dept. of Public Safety, and pay a total amount of $300 in probation and assessment fees.
Mr. Cruz was initially brought to court for five counts of burglary and one count of theft for stealing from the Acfalle family money, jewelry, camera, and other valuables with co-defendant John G. Manahane. The court has set the continuance of Mr. Manahane’s plea hearing for March 9.
The court judgment found Mr. Cruz guilty of robbing from the Acfalles a collection of 50-cent coins, a .22 caliber Remington rifle, a $500-worth camera, another $450-worth of coins, and a golden chain priced at $1,500. (MM)
