Action at the Asahi Four Person Beach Volleyball League has been nonstop since games every Tuesday and Thursday started last Feb. 13. At least 12 teams participated in the league. All games are played at the Pacific Islands Club and will run until the second week of April.

Two teams remain undefeated with four victories. The Verizon Eggheads and Len’s Scrapshooters both won all of their matches.

The Eggheads had a tough win over Abracadabra (2-1) last Tuesday night. They won the first game of three 11-5 and looked to be on cruise control.

The second game was a wake up call for Jon Cramer and crew, as Abracadabra jumped out to an 8-2 lead behind strong play from T-Rex and “Super” Sydney.

Cramer tried to inspire a comeback by recording his first career block, but it wasn’t enough as the Eggheads lost their first game of the year. The third game started down the same path when Abracadabra jumped out to an early 6-2 lead.

They would get only two more points as the leading kill man in the league, the Bangkok Bomber, was substituted into the game. The Bomber dominated and the Eggheads surged to an 11-8 victory for the game and match.

Len’s Scrapshooters was the pre-season favorite to win the league with players like Dougie “Fresh Fish” Mauro and Tyce “Mr.” Mister. So far they have struggled to live up to the expectations.

Despite their 4-0 match record, they have dropped games in two of the four matches and squeaked out a 13-11 win in the third game against a very loud Mackay Boys (1-2) team led by Peter “Bullhorn: Barlas.

Nonetheless, the Scrapshooters remain tied for first and a force to be reckoned with in future weeks.

At the end of the last season T-8 Reef (3-1) began to make a name for itself. Their tough play and determination has once again kept them in the thick of things thus far this season.

Their only lost was at the hands of the Scrapshooters, and they have shown the never die attitude that has made them a tough team to play against.

In the first week of action, they lost the first game to Castaway Low Lifes (2-1), 11-6, but rebounded to beat the Low Lifes in the next two games for the match victory. Dimas “Da Man” Omar came up big in both games for the match victory.

Dimas “Da Man” Omar came up big in both games making big Randy Steele look small in his first league match.

The loss to T-8 lit a fire under Searay Beltran’s Lowlifes. They have won their last two games. One victory was against the MHS Dolphins (A) (0-3). Dolphins (A) have been impressive.

They took a game from the Low Lifes and one from Old Bull & the UN (1-2). Coached by Mr. Mister, the two high school teams have brought the most fans to all of the matches and had some awesome digs.

In a half battle between two PIC teams, Team Anoba (1-1) defeated Old Bull and the UN, two games to one. Each game was decided by three points or less.

Anoba took the first game 11-8. Bull and the UN came back form three points down to win the second game 12-10. It looked like they might be able to pull off the match by taking an early lead in game three, but Anoba would have none of that as they surged for the final four points of the match to win 11-8. Strong play from Sheila Figueroa carried Team Anoba. She had consistent serving and dug every ball hit her way.
