Youths from throughout Kagman filled the Assembly Hall of the village’s community center Saturday for the first in a series of conferences organized by the Kagman Kommunidat Association.

Rep. Tom Pangelinan and several sponsors generously supported the conference, with the theme “Creating a Responsible Community Environment.”

JoJo Camacho, who delivered the opening remarks, advised the youth that it is much easier to learn by listening and making informed choices while guest speaker Jonas Barcinas reminded them that education is the great equalizer.

Josephine DLG Mesta facilitated a discussion by providing the equation “education=success” and then polling the youth on their future work ambitions. A law profession topped the career choices for Kagman youths, followed by careers in the medical and teaching fields.

Group sessions followed with topics ranging from responding to diverse community needs to issues affecting youth and developing excellent relationships with parents. The youth and their facilitators addressed the issues and then developed plans of action that establish a solution to the problems posed.

Rita A. Sablan provided the summary presentation entitled advocating, nurturing and sustaining a shared vision of today’s youth conference.

Her summary presentation was accompanied by a computer-enhanced photomontage of scenes from Kagman that highlighted the natural beauty of the community starting at the beginning of the Kagman Road to the newly built Kagman Community Center, the newly built Kagman Elementary School and panoramic views of the pristine beaches.

Sponsors of the Kagman Youth Conference include: Kagman Kommunidat Association, Rep. Pangelinan, Pacific Resources in Education, Public School System, Pacific Trading, PL Store, Sen. Tom Villagomez, Representatives Brigida Ichihara, Jesus Attao, Rosiky Camacho, Diego Benavente, Martin Ada, Dino Jones, Ramon Guerrero, Washington Rep. Juan N. Babauta, Municipal Councilman Jesus Lizama, Rick Mafnas and NMHC.
