The Commonwealth Development Authority, Department of Lands and Natural Resources and the Northern Marianas College-CREES have joined forces to bring the 2001 Hydroponics Workshop to Saipan.

Professor Bernard Kratky of the Pacific Business Center Program based in Hawaii, who has many years of experience in non-circulating hydroponics systems, will be facilitating the workshop.

The free workshop is scheduled to be held from March 12-16 9am to 12 noon and 2-5pm at the Kagman Experiment Station.

The Hydroponics workshop will include the following topics:

• An introduction to non-circulating hydroponics farming.

• How to set up an operational non-circulating system.

• How to maintain a non-circulating hydroponics system.

• How to set up a local supply center to support non-circulating hydroponics systems.

• Sources of non-circulating hydroponics farm supplies and equipment.

• A presentation by CDA on its Microloan Program.

• The construction of a demonstration non-circulating hydroponics system.

Participants are asked to bring the following materials to the workshop which will be used to set up a small-scale system which they will be able to take home with them after the workshop: one-gallon empty plastic juice bottles/containers, old ice chests, 5-gallon buckets.

All of the early registrants are urged to reconfirm their participation if they have not already done so. All newly interested individuals are welcome, but due to the large number of early registrants, seating is limited.

A certificate of completion will be awarded to individuals who complete the entire workshop. Refreshments will be served. For more information or to reserve a space, please contact Anthony C. Benavente of the Northern Marianas College CREES at 234-5498, Extension 1709.
