The Northern Mariana Islands Election Law, PL 12-18, established procedures for the reporting of political campaign contributions and expenditures, according to the Commonwealth Election Commission.

Unlike in the previous election law, PL 12-18 is concise in the reporting requirements of receipts and disbursements of political campaign activities. PL 12-18 also provides that candidates and their campaign financial transactions are accurately reported.

The Commonwealth Election Commission and the Office of the Public Auditor will conduct briefing sessions for all candidates and/or their campaign committee treasurers on the campaign financial reporting requirements of Public Law 12-18.

This is an important training for those individuals running for office in this year’s regular general election, said the poll body in a media statement.

The session is scheduled for 7pm on May 8 at the Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan. Sessions for Tinian and Rota will be scheduled shortly thereafter.

All candidates and/or their duly appointed treasurers are highly encouraged to participate in this training session. For more information, please call the Election Commission at 664-VOTE.
