It’s been just a week after the intense competition ended but organizers and sponsors of the recently concluded Century Insurance Tennis Classic are already planning a much bigger and better tournament next year.

Some of Saipan’s best tennis players gathered for two weekends for the annual tennis fest held March 15-18 and 22-24 at the American Memorial Park Tennis Courts and this had organizers encouraged with the turnout.

“We see a lot of promise for this tournament and a lot of interest in the sport in general. We will definitely be back again next year, bigger and better,” said Andy Del Mundo, general manager of Century Insurance Company (CIC), major sponsor of the tournament.

CIC is an affiliate of Tan Holdings Corp., which has been sponsoring the event for the past several years.

Proceeds of the annual tournament, which has become one of Saipan’s most-awaited tennis events, are donated to charitable causes.

Organized by the Fil American Tennis Association (FILATA), this year’s event drew over 150 avid tennis players competing in 14 singles and doubles categories. The tournament was co-sponsored by Coca Cola this year.

According to Andy, who handed out the trophies to the winners during the awarding ceremonies, the tennis classic is a part of Century Insurance’s corporate community involvement program.

“We do this yearly in recognition of local tennis talents,” he said. “We have always been in support of programs that will lead to the betterment of members of the community, sports especially,” said Del Mundo.

Elmer Guzman, FILATA president, said preparations are underway to ensure a better, more interesting tournament next year.
