In-flight catering company LSG Lufthansa officially opened its second snack bar facility at the Saipan International Airport to better serve arriving and departing passengers.

LSG Guam-Saipan Managing Director Shane Smith, together with Commonwealth Ports Authority officials led by Board Chair Roman S. Palacios, graced the opening ceremony Friday.

The outdoor kiosk was built in response to requests received by CPA on the need to establish a fast food store within the airport premises for people who are either waiting for their flights or those picking up incoming passengers.

The Touch Down kiosk is the second snack bar of LSG at the SIA. The company is also operating Airlift snack bar located inside the airport facility.

The outdoor snack bar was estimated to cost between $50,000 to $80,000 and can seat at least 80 customers. It provides food and beverage concession to both airport customers and CPA employees.

The state-of-the-art kitchen facility is made of wall-to-wall stainless cabinets, grills among others. It will serve a string of daily set lunches, and fast food like grilled hamburgers, BBQ plate lunches and others.

The snack bar has a stand-up counter within its interior complete with trash and plant receptacles, condiments and a place designed to accommodate rushing customers.

CPA Executive Director Carlos H. Salas earlier said concession fee will stand still at 15 percent of gross sales which remains consistent with the existing Food and Beverage Agreement.

In 1999, LSG Lufthansa’s food and beverage contribution to CPA coffers reached nearly $90,000, while its airline catering generated close to $510,000 in total revenues to the CPA for the same year.

LSG Sky Chefs Saipan is a locally-established company for over 20 years. Its current staff is comprised of 50 percent local employees and 50 percent contracted nonresident workers. (EGA)
