The CNMI Council on Physical Fitness and Sports will host a Mass Walk this Saturday, kicking off its campaign for a healthy lifestyle.

The walk begins at 6am and includes a course that runs from the Garapan Fishing Base to the American Memorial Park.

Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela said the event would also feature various activities that promote the goals and objectives of the council.

“We will hold several games and activities including softball, tug-of-war, and two-legged race, sack race, and more,” he said. “It will be fun for everyone and it’s a way for us to promote the importance of exercise.”

Visors, T-shirts, and buttons will also be distributed to participants of the walk.

Gov. Juan N. Babauta met with school principals last Tuesday at Aqua Resort Club, informing them of the walk and the importance of encouraging students to engage in fitness activities.

The Council was established in December 2003 and consists of Gov. Juan N. Babauta, Rota Mayor Benjamin T. Manglona, Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja, Northern Island Mayor Valentino I. Taisakan, and Youth Congress Speaker Alvin C. Fejeran. For the past months, members engaged in several meetings to further organize the council and attract more members.

“We have people who get sick and must go on medical referral and, by promoting and implementing exercise and a balanced nutrition, we intend to decrease that number of people. With a healthier lifestyle, the people will live longer and be happier,” said Tudela.
