The Saipan-based Society for Human Resource Management has invited Attorney Marcia Schultz, a partner at Carlsmith Ball LLP and a former CNMI SHRM Chapter president, to speak at the group’s special half-day program on the upcoming changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The U.S. Department of Labor has released its final changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s “white-collar” exemption regulations governing the eligibility for overtime. Employers have until August 23, 2004, to comply with the new federal regulations. These changes affect both public and private sector employers in the CNMI.

“Join us to learn about the changes to this important federal employment law and how they affect your organization,” the group said in a statement.

It also urged all SHRM members to join their peers for this current and informative presentation. Non-members in the business community, whether owners, managers or human resource professionals, are also invited to learn more about the Society and to improve their human resource knowledge through the presentation and discussion.

The meeting will be held at the Sandcastle, Hyatt Regency Saipan on June 23, 2004 from 8am-1pm. The cost, including lunch, is $35 for SHRM members and $45 for non-SHRM members. Seating is limited; therefore members and others interested in attending this meeting should contact Kim or Shane at 234-1234 Ext. 5403/5151 or fax number 233-0182 for reservations.

The CNMI Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management is the Common-wealth’s foremost professional forum for discussion and training in Human Resource matters. Recognized as a Superior Merit Chapter, the CNMI branch is composed of human resource professionals from a variety of industries, large and small, who recognize a need for a local society for professionals in the human resources field. The CNMI Chapter is affiliated with the national organization.
