Japanese business group lauded
Mayor Juan B. Tudela presented the Japanese Business Executive Committee of the Northern Mariana Islands certificates of appreciation for their participation in the recent Shinbashi Koichi Festival held in Japan.
Hiroyuki Saito of Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort, Ikuo Katayama of TASI Tours and Marianas Visitors Authority, Nobuyuki Yoshii of Tasi Tours, Kunio Tomita of Japan Airlines, Yoichi Matsumura of Pacific Development Inc., and Yoshiro Kishimoto, general manager of Coral Ocean Point, were recognized for their efforts in the festival during a meeting at the Coral Ocean Point.
The CNMI’s participation in the Shinbashi Koichi Festival was made possible with the cooperation between MVA and the Japanese Business Executive Committee.
The JAL head office offered discounted airfares for the delegates that went to Japan. Kazuko Takahashi of PDI was on hand to supervise the CNMI cultural dance group, which performed several cultural dances and demonstrated to the Japanese how to make traditional handmade accessories.
Members and non-members of JBEC donated cash to assist with the accommodations during their stay for the festival.
The festival gave CNMI participants the chance to promote the islands as a friendly tourism destination.
The CNMI earned $200,000 worth of exposure by participating in the festival. A video footage of the festival, including performances by the CNMI cultural dancers, will be shown at one of busiest rail stations in Japan.
Tudela believes that the event provided an opportunity for friendship and cultural exchange between the people of the Northern Mariana Islands and the people of Shinbashi.
