The A-Team wins 5th Annual Horseshoe Tournament
The ringers and leaners were clanging at the Pacific Islands Club once again last week, as Dr. Mohammad Ashraf and John Aldredge out-tossed the competition to take first place in the 5th Annual Horseshoe Tournament.
On Sunday, Sept. 12, the PIC sponsored the equestrian footwear hurl-off, and the organizers surpassed last year’s number of 12 participants when a record of 19 teams showed up for the fifth year of high hooves.
After falling to Dale Roberts and Yuki Wallace, 18-16, in the second round, Ashraf and Aldredge needed to battle their way through the loser’s bracket to force a rematch with the duo that downed them.
The A-Team began their road to the finals by knocking off the team of Jon Cramer and Paul Barons, 15-12. They continued their run when they took out Randy Steele and “Tinian” Todd, 15-11, and followed it up by edging Gary Weakley and former champion Linda Anastacio, 15-12.
In the meantime, Roberts and Wallace defeated last year’s champion Mark McDonald and Yosh Gabaldon to send them to the third place game, and awaited the victor in the finals.
In the game for third place, Ashraf and Aldredge also had their way with McDonald and Gabaldon to earn the rematch.
For taking first place, the A-Team earned $220 for their efforts, while Roberts and Wallace won $120 for second, and Gabaldon and McDonald walked away with $80 for third.
