Travel and trade partners such as Asiana Airlines, SK Telecom, Arnold Palmer Golf Wear, Mizuno Golf, and DFS Galleria, joined together to conduct a public relations event called the Miss Saipania Contest.

The Marianas—Saipan, Tinian, and Rota—was recently highlighted as a fun, exciting destination during a contest held in Seoul, Korea on Sept. 16, 2004 at the Westin Chosun Hotel.

The promotional contest attracted over 140 travel agents and media representatives.

Three young ladies were selected as Ms. Saipania, Ms. Tinian, and Ms. Rota, and will assume their role for one year. Their primary task is to promote the Marianas at joint travel programs with travel agents, be present at PR events sponsored by Asiana Airlines and MVA, and pose for modeling photos for sales collaterals and brochures.

The contest was featured in Sports Seoul, an entertainment newspaper with a circulation of 1,500,000 daily. A special feature of the contest was shown on film clips through the online version of the daily newspaper on Sept. 20, 2004.

“Creative PR events help to enhance the islands’ appeal to travelers from Korea,” said MVA managing director Vicky Benavente. “The publicity value of this event generated awareness of the Marianas to potential visitors, especially the young, female travelers from Korea,” she added.
