A man allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol was taken into police custody early Sunday morning after his vehicle reportedly ran off the road in As Terlaje.

According to Department of Public Safety public information officer PO2 Eric David, the man, whose name was not disclosed pending further investigation, was on board a 1991 white Toyota pickup when the vehicle veered off the 2W Highway just north of the Northern Marianas College.

David said police responded to the incident at about 2:58am, and conducted a sobriety test, which the suspect reportedly failed.

David said the suspect did not sustain any injuries, and was taken to the Adult Correctional Facility in Susupe, where a breathalyzer test was conducted.

“He was found to be over the alcohol limit,” David said.

David said the man was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, and operating a vehicle with no driver’s license.

Further details were not available as or press time and the case has been placed under further investigation.
