Welcome to the USA

I am privileged to know a number of the ‘stateless’ young people who are now new U.S. citizens. I am fortunate to have had, and continue to have, many of them as students in my classes at NMC. Without exception, those at the college have been conscientious high achievers and very nice young adults active in the college and general community. They are people I am proud to know. Just like ‘the old days’ when the residents of the former territories of Oklahoma and California and the other states eventually became citizens when their territories became states, the people born here during the “in between years” in the NMI have finally been welcomed as citizens. Let’s not quibble. We ALL came from somewhere else or our grandparents did! Remember, America is about including, not excluding; about welcome, not denial; about the chance to make a good life and contribute! The CNMI will be richer for these new citizens’ contributions as productive workers and taxpayers as well. So let us all say, welcome to our new citizens! We are glad to know you!
