Juan S. not running for governor
Businessman Juan S. Tenorio said he is not running for governor, citing family and business as reasons.
Tenorio, former chair of the Commonwealth Development Authority board, said he gave the prospect some thought for a while but after consulting with his family, he decided against doing it “at this time.”
“I consulted with my family and based on that, I feel that it’s not the right time to run. One of my biggest priorities right now is my children’s schooling. I need to concentrate on their education. My decision is also based on business. As much as I’d like to help the community, no one would take care of the business,” he said in a recent interview.
Besides, he said that when it comes to community service, he had spent a considerable time with the CDA board beginning from 1984 to 2003.
Tenorio said his decision was not made because other potential contenders—who are his relatives—have approached him to back out.
“It has nothing to do with relationship,” he said.
Tenorio is cousin to Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider, former governor Froilan Tenorio, Juan T. Guerrero, and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente, who is seeking re-election with incumbent Gov. Juan N. Babauta.
But Tenorio said he will soon make his personal choice for governor very soon. “I will make known whom I will support,” he said.
The former CDA board chair currently manages his personal business, JET Holdings Co., which includes a realty company, J’s Restaurant, and JET Consultancy.
He is also a shareholder at Saipan Shipping, Saipan Stevedore, City Trust Bank, Coral Ocean Point, and PHI Pharmacy.
Tenorio finished a bachelors’ degree in finance in Washington in 1976. He went to Mt. Carmel for elementary and attended high school in Hawaii.
