The Junior Statesmen of America-Marianas High School chapter held a mock presidential election for this election season last Nov. 3.

The mock presidential polls were held during break and lunch at three different voting stations around the campus, with JSA volunteer members organizing and operating the proceedings.

Some 254 students and 35 teachers had a chance to participate in this democratic exercise and to let their voices be heard.

President Bush won MHS’ mock election with 141 votes, outpacing both Sen. John F. Kerry, who finished with 133 votes, and presidential gadfly Ralph Nader, who finished with 12.

Though these results clearly didn’t count in the official presidential election, they do indicate the interest in presidential politics at MHS and show that young people here are interested in making a political difference. (Semona Igama)
