The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has urged Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors to consider using concrete telephone poles as they are more stable and durable.

The municipal council members said in a recently passed resolution that, although the installation of concrete telephone poles may be expensive at the initial stage, the investment is cheaper in the long run.

“Further, the members feel that with proper installation of concrete telephone poles and lines with well trimmed tree branches near telephone lines and secured surroundings, private and government facilities will continue to enjoy public utilities service during typhoons. In the event of damage, restoration of public utilities service will be at greater rate at less cost,” part of the resolution reads.

The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
