Top three teams advance at PIC
With only three nights of competition remaining on the schedule, Flush It!, Bend It Like Megan, and the Sleezy Lambleezies maintained their place atop the standings following Tuesday night’s games in the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League at the Pacific Islands Club.
Flush It! (10-1) got the ball rolling in the first match of the night when they peeled the Bananas (5-7) to get their second win in a row. Flush It! wasted no time as they quickly won the first two sets in the best-of-three contest, 11-1 and 11-2 before dropping the third 7-11.
Flush It! will play in its finale next Tuesday, Nov. 30, when they face the fifth place Dragon Flares (7-3). If they can extinguish the Flares, they have a shot at winning the regular season title. Aside from a loss, the only thing that could sink Flush It! is the tiebreaker.
They may not even need the tiebreaker if Bend It Like Megan (9-1) stumbles along the way, but there was no sign of that occurring, as they took a broom to Machigainai! (1-10).
The Megan-like contortionists laid a whooping upon the lowly Machigainai! in their 33-4, three-set total. There were calls of foul play made by the losing team, but the only thing foul on the court was the lackluster play of Machigainai!.
Bend It Like Megan still has two games remaining against two teams that are fighting for a chance at the top, and one of those teams exercised their will upon another squad that ventured out to the sand courts from the depths of the cellar.
The Sleezy Lambleezies (9-1) have clawed their way to the top by winning their last seven games, including their latest triumph over Esemuoel (0-10). The Sleezy Lambleezies took all three sets from the Esemuoel, 11-1, 11-3, and 11-7. While the Sleezy Lambleezies Express have been rolling into station after station with a shipment of aces and kills, their next stop, Bend It Like Megan-ville, will determine if they have what it takes to win it all.
From the teams fighting for a spot at the top to a team fighting for a spot in the playoffs, the Bill Bratzski’s (5-5) made a case that they should make the final eight when they trounced Team Papalatung (0-11).
The Bratzski’s needed all three sets to down the team from down below, but in doing so, they won their fourth consecutive contest and kept their playoff chances alive.
