Northen, Braig, Colemen take tape in final Kids TRYathlon

Maxi Braig, Opal Northen, and Melissa Coleman each won their respective divisions in last Saturday’s Kids TRYathlon in Marpi.

Braig made it two Kids TRYathlon victories in two tries after topping the boy’s 6-7-year-old age group in an overall time of 21:33. The six-year-old made waves in the 100-meter swim with a time of 2:47, made heads turn in the 3-kilometer bike with a 12:14, and tore the pavement with a 6:32 in the 1km run.

Misaki Cramer took an amazing six minutes off his previous best and finished second in the division with a time of 21:59. The seven-year-old churned the water in 3:12, pedaled like no tomorrow in 12:12, and tortured his running shoes in 6:25.

Jack Sharer, seven years old, finished third best in the age group, coming in at 23:01. He emerged from the water in 2:35, discarded his bike in 13:06, and then finished his run in 7:20.

Northen, for her part, duplicated her sister Ashley’s triumph in the older division by winning the girl’s 6-7 level. The six-year-old from Whispering Palms School finished first in the age group with a superb time of 20:27.

Northen was a mermaid possessed in water, logging a 3:01 in the swim, was the quickest on two wheels with a 11:20, and did the run in 6:06.

Gabrielle Race came second in the girl’s age group with her 20:36. The six-year-old from Whispering Palms finished the swim in 3:11, negotiated the bike course in 11:29, and scorched the road going up to the Last Command Post and back in a sterling 5:56.

Olivia Austin finished third in the age group. She had a total time of 26:11 after coming up with a 3:15 in the swim, 16:33 in the bike, and 6:23 in the run.

In the team division, Taylor Knecht teamed up with Jenna Jones to finish the race in 38:01. Knecht did the swim and bike portions in 3:36 and 23:30, while Jones did the run in 10:55.

Other participants in the 6-7-year-old age group were Wrinn Alexander and Kenyon Schultz. Alexander finished with a flat 25 (4:19 in the swim, 13:52 in the bike, and 6:49 in the bike), while Schultz did the course in 55:48 (4:52, 22:33, and 8:23).

Coleman was tops in girl’s 13-15 division after conquering the 200m swim, 6km bike, and 2km run in 29:01. The 15-year-old was the fastest in the water with a 2:46, was also untouchable in the bike with a 15:01, and then capped her performance with an 11:14 in the run.

Natasha Good and Katy Johnson came in second and third. Good checked in at 31 minutes flat after going 3:06 in the swim, 16:07 in the bike, and 11:47 in the run. Johnson was 18 seconds off Good’s pace after swimming for 3:32, riding the bike for 16:03, and running for 11:43.

Other participants in the age group were Amanda Johnson and Myana Welch. Johnson reached the finish line in 32:10 ((2:50 swim, 16:26 bike, and 12:54 run), while Welch came in with a time of 33:20 (3:03, 15:58, 14:19).
