A 30-year-old man is facing six criminal charges for allegedly having sex with a minor.

The Attorney General’s Office filed the charges yesterday with the Superior Court against Melvin Dela Cruz.

Assistant attorney general Jeffrey Warfield charged Dela Cruz with two counts each of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

Warfield accused Dela Cruz of having sex with the victim without the latter’s consent on two occasions—May 2004 and Nov. 15, 2003.

Based on the criminal information filed by Warfield, the victim was only 15 years old when both incidents happened. The victim had just celebrated her birthday when the first incident happened days later last year.
