No Ka Oi, Taitano are week’s best

No Ka Oi and Lala Taitano were toasted last week in sports.

The inaugural winners of the annual Crime Stoppers Softball Tournament returned to the throne, topping the three-day underhanded competition by beating Master Construction last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex, proving once more that No Ka Oi is indeed the best.

Taitano, meanwhile, saved her very best for last, as the Filipina right-hander ruled the women’s competition of the Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament also held Sunday at the Saipan Bowling Center.

In other sports the 2004 Saipan Major League, Rep. Dave Apatang Hustlers defeated Heinz & David North Stars in Game 1 of the best-of-five finals of the fall edition of the SML Saturday.

In the 2004 Government Basketball League, Office of the Public Auditor pulled the rug from under defending champion Northern Marianas College, while Department of Public Safety II continued their rise to respectability by beating Commonwealth Ports Authority Wednesday.

Action in the Island Wide Volleyball League also picked up last week with league-leading Lost Boyz almost getting upset by Chukanos Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
