Following a number of several tournaments in the past few weeks, the officers of the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association took it upon themselves to assess the progress of the fledgling association’s attempt at sending a team to the 2005 South Pacific Mini-Games in the Palau this July.

NMIVA president Mark McDonald, treasurer Kitinan Intharaluk, secretary Steve Nguyen, and advisor Jon Cramer gathered to address some of the issues that the association is facing these coming months before the this summer’s event, and now they want to share their information with the rest of the volleyball community.

On Wednesday, Feb. 23, there will be a general membership meeting at 7pm at the Pacific Islands Club in the NAPU Room to discuss NMIVA business, fundraising, and upcoming tournaments such as the Marianas Cup this month, the Jam-Attack in March, the South Pacific Mini-Games in July, the Micro Games in 2006, and the qualifying and point-standings for the South Pacific Games.

According to Nguyen, the Marianas Cup tournament draws top amateur players from the pacific region as well as professionals from the United States and Japan, and will be held from Saturday, Feb. 26 and run through Sunday, Feb. 27.

“The 2005 edition of the Marianas Cup promises to be one of the most exciting volleyball tournaments of the year,” said Nguyen.

The NMIVA officers are encouraging all association members to come to the meeting, along with all local volleyball coaches and players.
