Council lauds Herbert Nauta

The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council adopted a resolution recognizing, congratulating, and commending U.S. Army specialist Herbert San Nicolas Nauta for his “bravery, courage, and determination to uphold the U.S. Armed Forces’ goal to secure peace, freedom, and democracy in Iraq.”

Nauta enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and served under Echo Company, 100 Battalion, 442nd Infantry Division from Feb. 1999 to Aug. 2003. He entered active duty in Aug. 2003 and was deployed for a one-year tour of duty to Iraq in Dec. 15, 2003. In Iraq, Nauta was assigned in b-CO 1/16 infantry, 1st BCT, 1st ID.

He is a recipient of Global War on Terrorism, Army Commendation and National Defense Service medals.

Nauta is the son of Joseph Aguon Nauta (deceased) and Paz Nauta San Nicolas Jiro.

Nauta is married to Gloria Castro and the two were blessed with four children—Brendalynn, Paricia, Cornelius Joseph and Justine.

“The council joins the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to Nauta for safeguarding and protecting the lives of his fellow Americans,” part of the resolution reads.

The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.

Yinjyh “Eddie” Lang Chen, the CNMI’s first casualty in Iraq; U.S. Army specialist 4 Monique Guerrero Sablan, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Randy Takai Johnson, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Army Sgt. Nazario San Nicolas Borja of Tinian, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Army specialist Gregory Cabrera Cing of Tinian, wounded in Iraq; U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dustin M. Pangelinan, wounded in Iraq; and U.S. Army Sgt. Jason D. Hensley, wounded in Iraq.
