Laundry fight allegedly prompts man to hit brother with machete
An argument between two brothers over doing the laundry allegedly led one to hit the other with a machete at their Koblerville home on Valentine’s Day, injuring the latter on the head.
When responding policemen arrived at scene, 25-year-old Frank Edward M. Sablan was still holding the machete, which he dropped upon being ordered by the lawmen. Sablan allegedly admitted hitting his brother Ronald (not the former Hotel Association chair) with the weapon.
Police arrested Sablan on charges of assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
The Superior Court has imposed a $10,000-bail for Sablan’s temporary release, but ordered the defendant to surrender his travel documents and not to leave Saipan should he manage to post bail.
Based on investigation conducted by police detective Cristino DLC. Cabrera, the incident stemmed from an argument over taking turns in doing laundry at the Sablans’ garage area.
Cabrera said Ronald Sablan was washing clothes at the garage when Frank Sablan arrived and asked his brother to hurry up because he had to do his laundry next. Frank Sablan allegedly got irked when Ronald Sablan told him to wait.
An altercation ensued, after which Frank Sablan left the scene and slammed the door, police said.
“While the victim was washing [clothes], suddenly, Frank [Sablan] came up with a machete and hit [Ronald Sablan’s] head,” the detective said.
The victim sustained a laceration that is about 2-3 inches long, police said.
