OPA’s Mendiola and Torres recognized

The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council adopted a resolution recognizing CNMI Office of the Public Auditor analysts Kimberly Manglona Mendiola and Robert Camacho Torres for being the first persons of Marianas descent to earn the prestigious Certified Internal Auditor “CIA” designation and to pass the difficult Certified Government Auditing Professional Examination, administered by the Institute of Internal Auditors, respectively.

Mendiola took the Institute of Internal Auditor as Certified Internal Auditor Examination on Jan. 15, 2005, passed it and became the first person of Northern Marianas descent to earn the prestigious Certified Internal Auditor “CIA” designation.

Torres, for his part, took the Certified Government Auditing Professional Examination in March 2004, passed it and became the first person of Northern Marianas descent to earn the Certified Government Auditing Professional “CGAP” designation.

Mendiola graduated from the University of Hawaii with double majors in finance and marketing.

Torres graduated from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics in the fall of 2001.

He received his Associates of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Spokane Community College, Spokane, WA, in the spring of 1998 and is a graduate of Grace Christian Academy, High School in 1996.

Mendiola is the daughter of Melchor Atalig and Lydia Manglona Mendiola of Rota. Torres is the son Joseph Wesley (deceased) and Rosita Camacho Torres of Gualo Rai. Torres is husband to Carla Coldeen Torres.

The resolution stated that members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are “extremely proud” of Mendiola and Torres for their recent accomplishments.

The resolutions were certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela. (PR)
