The Marianas Visitors Authority hosted in February several media representatives, which included television and magazine companies from Japan.

This effort resulted in free publicity amounting to approximately $303,781, targeting nationwide readership and TV audience.

TV Tokyo filmed its annual television program called King of Golf at the Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort. This program focused on training famous talents to become better golfer. The 30-minute show will be aired nationwide in Japan every Saturday in April and May.

Beach Angels from Television Broadcasting System were also on Saipan and Rota to cover various tourist sites such as Teteto Beach, Swimming Hole on Rota and Saipan’s Managaha Island.

The Monthly Volleyball Magazine covered the 13th Annual Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival, which was coordinated by Pacific Island Club on Feb. 26 and 27. The event included volleyball professionals from the United States and Japan who had played in the Olympics.

The MVA also participated in the Golf Fair 2005, which was held at Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, on Feb. 25–27, 2005. There were 189 booth exhibitors, which promoted their golf properties and other related products and services. At the MVA’s booth, visitors received destination and golf brochures and participated in different types of games for a chance to win a prize. The MVA also conducted a survey to determine the awareness level of visitors about the CNMI as a golf destination. According to the event organizer, over 45,000 visitors from the trade and public came to the fair.

“Tie-up promotion is an important component in our promotional endeavor with the Japan market where advertising cost is high. Promotional opportunities provide tremendous exposure value to the CNMI because of its potential to cost-effectively reach a wide range of audience and promote the different type of travel experience available in all three islands—Saipan, Tinian, and Rota,” said MVA managing director Vicky Benavente.

The MVA received tremendous support from its members, which resulted in approximately $25,000 worth of in-kind support in February. These members included Pacific Island Clubs, Continental Airlines, Chamolinian Village, PDI Marine Park, Capricciosa, Rakuen, Sand Castle, Aqua Resort Hotel, Saipan Sunset Cruise, Kingfisher, Saipan Country Club, Mariana Resort & Spa, Coral Ocean Point and Lao Lao Bay Golf Resort.
