Hopwood PTSA meeting today
Hopwood Junior High School will hold its regular monthly parent, teachers, students association meeting today, March 10, from 6pm to 7pm at the school’s cafeteria.
All parents, teachers, students, and community leaders are invited to attend the PTSA meeting, which will primarily discuss the upcoming resolutions of the 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.
The council is expected to honor the following individuals for their unique contributions to HJHS and the community:
* Ms. Erlinda Limitiaco as HJHS Teacher of the Year;
* Ms. Christie C. Sablan as Teacher Aide of the Year;
*Ms. Patty Mendoza as Support Staff of the Year;
*Jonathan Kaipat as logo winner, 1st Place, 7th grader;
* Carmina Eugenio as logo winner, 2nd Place, 7th grader; and
* Daniel Jake Kaipat as logo winner, 3rd Place, 7th grader.
The PTSA meeting will also discuss the upcoming Family Fun Night, scheduled for March 18, Friday, from 4:40pm to 10:30pm
Also part of today’s PTSA meeting are the usual business as well as the president’s message, the principal’s message, and discussion of the previous meeting’s minutes, and update on the association’s finances.
NAWMU 1 to hold change of command today
Naval Airborne Weapons Maintenance Unit 1 will be holding a change of command ceremony today at 10am. at Top O’ the Mar. During the time-honored Navy tradition, Cmdr. Diann D. Pape will be relieved by Cmdr. Robert Neville.
Neville is reporting from Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Sicily, where he was weapons officer.
Pape received her commission in August 1987 under the Limited Duty Officer Program. After tours in Sicily, the United Kingdom, the U.S. and three deployments at sea, Pape reported to Guam as NAWMU 1’s commanding officer in February 2003. She will be reporting as weapons officer at Naval Air Station, Fallon, Nev.
NAWMU 1 is a munitions maintenance activity and combat support unit, manned and operated to conduct intermediate and selected depot-level maintenance. The command tests and repairs air and select surface-launched missiles, as well as guided weapons and components, in support of the U.S. Navy worldwide.
Inatuas meeting tomorrow
For all members, past and present of the INATUAS Cultural Dance Group, there will be a general meeting tomorrow, March 11, 6:30pm, at the Dandan Elementary School Cafeteria.
Topics to be addressed include the election of new officers and the election of a new Board of Directors as well as goals and objectives for the upcoming year.
INATUAS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the local culture through songs, chants and dance.

DES re-schedules PTA meeting
This is to inform the parents and guardians of Dandan Elementary School that the PTA meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 6:30 pm is being rescheduled to Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 6:30 pm.
Memorial Day meeting
The CNMI will be paying tribute to departed members of the U.S. Armed Forces on Memorial Day. May 30, 2005.
We would like to remind all concerns and interested individuals or association that the Memorial Day Committee meeting will be at the Office of the Military/Veterans Affairs, Capital Hill, building #1364, every Tuesday at 9am. First meeting will start this Tuesday, March 22, 2005. All are welcome.
Saipan Community School enrolment going on
Parents who have sons/daughters enrolled in Saipan Community School are encouraged to enroll them for school year 2005-2006 during the month of March.
SCS said enrolling students early would help the school and the parents avoid any difficulties.
SCS said March 24 would be the last day to sign up before open enrollment starts on April 4.

March 14, 2005 – April 1, 200 – Registration for new students with siblings enrolled in GCA
April 4, 2005 – Open Enrollment

Marianas March Against Cancer captains’ meeting set
The 2005 Marianas March Against Cancer Committee is calling a meeting for all team captains for the March Against Cancer event that will take place later in May.
The meeting for team captains will be at 5:30pm on March 17, 2005 at the Charley’s Cabaret of the Pacific Islands Club.
The MMAC committee is asking individuals, organizations, schools, and businesses to become a part of this year’s March Against Cancer by forming a team and participating in this important event.
All team captains and other interested individuals are asked to attend the team captain meeting to learn more about the event.
The Marianas March Against Cancer event is the Common-wealth’s largest fundraiser in the fight against cancer. Groups wanting to register their team or anyone needing more information may email Reyna Hudson at jianhudson@hotmail.com.
