Since the Saipan Softball Association wrapped up its league play several weeks ago upon the dusty fields of the Oleai Sports Complex, the Belau Amateur Softball Association has the underhanded interests of long-ball hitters in mind, as they are teaming up with Marpac Distributors and Budweiser to host the King of the Diamonds softball tournament next weekend.

The games were scheduled to get underway this weekend but have been pushed back to Saturday, March 19, and Sunday, March 20, to allow more teams the opportunity to raise the funds prior to entering the tournament at the Dan Dan Community Softball Field.

According to BSA president Newman Techur, this is the first of a set of three tournaments offering bragging rights and a trip to Palau for the King of the Diamond Softball Tournament against the best of Guam and Palau.

The cost to enter the tournament is $200, payable to Marpac. Organizers said that both the waiver and roster forms must be signed and completed before start of the tournament. Due to the rules of the American Softball Association, and players are advised that low compression/restricted flight softballs will be used, and that all bat’s with a rating of 100 and above will be restricted from play.

All interested participants can contact Newman Techur for more information by calling 234-0173.
