Preps underway for exchange program
Preparations are underway for the annual voyage of the Wakai Nekko No Kai Foundation, which has been bringing hundreds of Japanese students to Saipan for the past 37 years.
Yesterday, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela, together with local school officials and the Pacific Development Inc., welcomed Wakai Nekko No Kai Foundation president Hideo Kato back to Saipan.
“It is always with great pleasure to see you visit us again. I know this because Saipan is your second home,” Tudela told Kato.
Kato’s visit was part of arrangements for the arrival next month of some 350 Japanese students that will be participating in the annual cultural exchange program between Japan and the Northern Marianas next month.
Pacific Development Inc. public relations and marketing manager Gordon Marciano said the foundation’s Ocean University would arrive on May 4 and leave the following day.
Marciano said that visiting students would participate in a sightseeing tour around the island. Then, they will spend an afternoon at Micro Beach, where they will have an opportunity to mingle with local students.
A dinner reception will follow aboard the delegation’s ship.
This year’s trip, which coincides with the Golden Week celebration, will mark the university’s 37th voyage to Saipan and the 52nd anniversary of the Wakai Nekko No Kai.
