Deadline for Coca-Cola tennis at PIC today
With the 5th Annual Coca-Cola Tennis Championships returning to the courts of the Pacific Islands Club tomorrow, individual players looking to be a part of the action need to register as soon as possible because the organizers of this year’s event will be holding the singles draws today.
The top men and women singles players from Saipan meet upon the green hard courts in San Antonio to take part in top caliber tennis tomorrow, and continue through Sunday, April 3. The men can choose between participating in the open, 4.0, 3.0, and a men’s masters division for players 40-and-over, while the women compete in either the open or 4.0 divisions.
The action continues the following week on Friday, April 8, through Sunday, April 10, when the doubles take to the courts for team play. The men will once again have the choice between the open, 4.0, and 3.0, while the women can opt between the open and the 4.0. There will also be an exciting mixed doubles event during the second weekend.
According to tournament coordinator Evan Hunsberger, the open divisions of both the singles and doubles are guaranteed cash prizes for the top two finishers. The remainder of the participants will not walk away empty handed, as they will receive a prize from one of an assortment of sponsors, such as Coca-Cola, the PIC, Pacific Subsea, Sandcastle, Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, Joeten Enterprises, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Tony Roma’s and Capricciosa.
To enter the 5th Annual Coca-Cola Tennis Championships, pick up a registration form at the PIC Information Desk from 9am until 6pm daily, as well as at the tennis courts at the American Memorial Park.
The cost to enter the tournament is $20 for the singles portion this weekend and $30 per team for the doubles events. In addition to being provided with an opportunity to compete against the island’s best for a shot at the championship, all participants will be provided with water park passes to help them relax between matches.
The deadline to enter the doubles portion of the annual affair is next Thursday, April 7, at 6pm. For more information, contact Evan Hunsberger or Jon Cramer at the PIC by calling 235-6231 ext. 5147, or via email at sea@picsaipan.com.
