Senate commends OPA’s Mendiola, Torres
The CNMI Senate convened last week to formally recognize two personnel of the Office of the Public Auditor for being the first local residents to have been awarded the Certified Government Auditing Professional Designation and the Certified Internal Auditor by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The nine-member senate recognized OPA analysts Kimberly Manglona Mendiola for her CIA designation and Robert Camacho Torres for his CGAP designation.
Mendiola took the Certified Internal Auditor examination on Jan. 15, 2005, passed it, and became the first resident of Northern Marianas descent to earn the prestigious Certified Internal Auditor “CIA” designation.
Torres took the Certified Government Auditing Professional Examination in March 2004, passed it and became the first local resident to earn the “CGAP” designation.
Mendiola, who graduated from the University of Hawaii with double majors in finance and marketing, had worked in the private sector both on Saipan and Hawaii prior to OPA.
She has been with OPA since 2002.
Torres graduated from the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics in the fall of 2001.
He received his Associates of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts from Spokane Community College, Spokane, WA, in the spring of 1998 and is a graduate of Grace Christian Academy, High School in 1996.
Torres was 2003-2004 OPA Employee of the Year.
The senate said that both Mendiola and Torres “have brought pride and distinction to the CNMI.”
The recognition came following the introduction of resolutions by Senate minority leader Pete P. Reyes. (Liberty Dones)
