With the XTERRA Saipan Championship dominating the headlines these past few days, it’s refreshing to note that children are also part of the fun in the multi-sport spectacle.

As in the past three years, organizers made sure the little ones are not forgotten, setting up a special activity for all kids.

Dubbed as the XTERRA Kids Bike Race, the event features a little course at the Micro Beach area for kids to show their stuff.

The event is scheduled to unfold at about 9am, shortly after the kick off of the XTERRA Saipan Championship and XTERRA Sport races.

All kids can take part in the event for no charge. The only requirement is for kids to bring a bike, trike, or rollerblades, and each must have a helmet for safety.

Trey Garman, director of marketing for Team Unlimited/XTERRA, said yesterday that each participant would receive a goody bag, which will be filled with a T-shirt, bike plate, and stickers, among others.

Today is also expected to be a busy day, with the Tank-2-Tank Swim and XTERRA 5K/10K Sunset Scramble set to go.

Individuals interested in taking part in the Tank-2-Tank Swim must go at the Civic Center beach by AJ’s Restaurant by 12pm.

The Scramble, meanwhile, will be held at 5pm, beginning at Micro Beach. In addition to being a visually stimulating welcome to the jungle runs of Saipan, the Scramble will be a benefit for the Saipan Swim Club—with one-third of every entry fee going directly to the islands’ most bemedaled sport.

The cost to participate in either the XTERRA Sunset Scramble 5-kilometer or 10-km trail runs is $15, and entrants receive a T-shirt and light refreshments in addition to the jaunt.

The day is capped with the XTERRA Saipan Welcome Reception at the Pacific Islands Club for all athletes and volunteers of the race. The reception is set to begin at 7pm.

A gentle recovery bike ride will also be available for interested individuals on Sunday morning beginning at 8am at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.
