Japan’s Phillip McGlade and Meg Nuttall were among the top athletes recognized for their efforts Saturday, going to the extreme and winning their divisions in the XTERRA Sport.

After waiting for the XTERRA Saipan Championship competitors to round their first lap in the swim leg, Mcglade began his journey and was the first to return to Micro Beach, sporting a time of 2:05.07.

McGlade was ninth overall out of the water, completing the 750-meter swim in 19.44, but put up the best performance among the competition in the 20km bike and made up time with a 1:22.20 to take the lead, one that he would not relinquish. He then solidified his reign with a 23.03 run.

Finishing a close second was Isaac Chellman of Guam, who was three seconds faster than McGlade in the swim but almost three minutes back on the bike (1:25.05).

He, however, made a charge in the run, closing on McGlade before finishing just 25 seconds behind at 2:05.32.
