Diamond Fixers got into a rhythm early and often and posted a 102-62 rout of Subway in the continuation of the Saipan Ice & Water Co., Inc. 20th Anniversary Basketball League Thursday night at the Construction and Material Supply court in Gualo Rai.

William Opone got the now 2-0 Diamond Fixers into the groove in the first quarter, unloading 11 points to help his team take control of the ballgame up by 20 points, 29-9, after the opening quarter.

The carnage continued in the second stanza. But unlike the first when Opone dominated the scoring, six different Diamond Fixers this time shredded Subway’s defense as the gap between the two teams grew larger.

After 20 minutes of play, Diamond Fixers added 11 more points to its first-quarter spread, 50-19.

Opone returned to his sleek shooting ways and joined hands with burly forward Francis Rebuyon in the third canto, as Diamond Fixers didn’t show Subway any ounce of mercy.

Despite 10-point third quarters from Bong Sese and Darius Salvani, Subway still had ways to go before even making it competitive and was down 43-77 going into the fourth and final quarter.

The payoff period was reduced to garbage time as Diamond Fixers continued to pour on the points, while Subway just couldn’t get anything going.

Reserve center Alex Lauron made the most of his minutes in the fourth, scoring all eight of his points, as Diamond Fixers strolled to the 40-point conquest of the sandwich makers.

Opone led four Diamond Fixers players in double figures with 17, while Sese paced Subway’s sub-par performance with 26 markers. The loss dropped the team to 1-2 in the team standings.

Mother Nature, meanwhile, came a calling in the second game when rain forced the postponement of the Micronesian Brokers, Inc.-Saipan Ice encounter. The game was stopped with 2:33 left in the third quarter and MBI up 50-45.

Diamond Fixers 102 – Opone 17, Aldan 13, Rebuyon 12, Montano 10, Gabriel 8, Lauron 8, Peleno 6, Villasan 6, Hernandez 5, Arenas 5, B. Garcia 4, A. Garcia.

Subway 62 – Sese 26, Salvani 18, Felix 6, Musngi 6, Kalaw 2, Olivarez 2.
