The Tanapag Young Warriors got back to its winning ways Tuesday evening, bouncing back from consecutive losses to beat the San Antonio Sixers II, 43-34, at the Koblerville Basketball Court in the ongoing Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League.

Young Warriors got another huge outing from their one-two punch of Ike Aldan and Gerome Mira, who worked relentlessly to push their squad ahead after trailing at the break.

Aldan and Mira played consistently throughout the entire bout, beginning their run by combining for six points in the opening eight minutes, while communicating well with teammates on defense to go up 7-3.

San Antonio, however, returned the favor in the second period, with Novo Pepito and Lawrence Echon combining for 12 points to spark a 15-9 run that enabled them to get a taste of the lead. At halftime, the Sixers II were ahead by a field goal, 18-16.

Aldan then took things into his own hands and heated up as the second half got underway.

The Tanapag gunner nailed almost everything he threw at the hoop, scoring 11 of his team’s 17 points, while Sixers II cooled off and managed to put up only nine points, resulting in the Young Warriors regaining the lead and headed into crunch time with a 33-27 cushion.

Tanapag’s one-two punch continued to put up enough numbers in the payoff period and the Young Warriors held off a desperation charge for the nine-point victory margin.

Aldan finished with a game-high 21 points, while Mira supported with 16 points to lead the Young Warriors.

Echon led the Sixers II with 16 points, while Pepito and Juanito Sambile chipped in with eight and six points in a losing cause.
