A 14-year-old boy died after being hit by a taxicab in San Roque Friday, while another man got killed after a motorist hit and dragged him and his bicycle several feet on the road along Chalan Monsignor Guerrero in San Jose Sunday night.

The accident along Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road—the site of many vehicular accidents—happened across the busy San Jose Mart and Dolphin Supermarket at past 9pm Sunday.

It was a bloody sight for many witnesses, who saw the 50-year-old Chinese man being hit by an eastbound sedan on the inner lane of the road. The crash caused the man to lose his balance and the sedan dragged him and his bicycle several feet, witnesses said.

A bag, a pair of shoes, and dentures, apparently belonging to the victim, could be seen scattered on the ground along with a pool of blood before heavy rain washed away the remnants of the fatal accident, which occurred even as San Jose was celebrating its village fiesta.

“After being hit, the car dragged the man several feet away on the road, scraping off his skin,” said one witness, who requested anonymity.

Citing results of preliminary investigation, Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the victim was crossing the highway southbound when the collision occurred. He did not disclose the identity of the victim, who he said, died shortly after the crash.

Investigation showed that there was error on the part of the victim, who should have yielded to traffic flow along the highway. David said, though, that investigators are still studying the possibility of pressing charges against the sedan operator, Yonnie M. Dejillas, a 21-year-old man. He said investigators have yet to ascertain if Dejillas was overspeeding when the collision occurred.

In Friday’s road accidents in San Roque, a boy died while his 15-year-old companion sustained injuries after a taxicab hit them while they were crossing Middle Road. Police said the boys were victims of a hit-and-run.

The 15-year-old boy got treated for minor injuries and had already been discharged from the hospital, David said. The 14-year-old boy died at the hospital.

David withheld the two boys’ identities, but described them as Filipinos. He said the two were crossing the street from a gasoline station to the other side of the road when the accident occurred at about 7pm.

The driver of the taxicab that hit the victims, Ruhul Amin, continued driving his vehicle to his Garapan home. He later surrendered to police.

The DPS spokesman said there was pedestrian error on the victims’ part, but said investigation remains ongoing as to whether or not vehicular homicide charges would be pressed against the Bangladeshi national.

Police has already issued citations against Amin for alleged traffic violations, including failure to stop at and report an accident and fleeing an accident scene.
