RNC appoints director for US territories
The Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C. recently named Anne F. Hathaway as regional political director for the U.S. territories, according to an RNC release addressed to Republican Party of the Northern Mariana Islands Association chair Juan S. Reyes and RNC national committeewoman Marylou S. Ada.
At the GOP general membership and convention kickoff rally on May 15, David M. Sablan Sr. was elected to represent the GOP as national committeeman, and is slated to be present at his inaugural swearing-in this year in Idaho.
Hathaway also oversees the strategic Republican states of Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. She hails from Indianapolis.
The Northern Marianas GOP was first conferred the official member status last year at the 38th Republican National Convention in New York City on Aug. 30 to Sept. 2, 2004.
As an official member, the Northern Mariana Islands Republican Party holds the distinction of having an equal number of seats in RNC just like any other member state as large as New York and as small as Rhode Island. These seats are state chairman, national committeewoman and national committeeman.
The local GOP is seated in the RNC Rules Committee at the national level.
According to the local GOP, being a part of the RNC organization gives the Northern Marianas official standing and place in the Western States Association composed of Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
“These member states are now strategic allies of the Northern Marianas in RNC,” the local GOP said.
Serving in the capacity as political coordinator for the RNC for the affiliate jurisdictions is Dan Iten, who hails from the Washington, D.C. office. (PR)
