On federal takeover, again?
Since 1993, Rep. George Miller has consistently pushed for federal takeover of local immigration and minimum wage here. Hail to consistency!
It must be Miller’s obsession, even in the wake of thousands of illegal Mexicans working in Valley Farms in California. None of these employees receive the federal minimum wage for working illegally.
Obviously, enforcement of federal laws on immigration and minimum wage would increase the cost of vegetables and fruits by as much as 30-40 percent, according to Valley Farm owners.
California politicians know that their own people aren’t willing to work the fields. Only illegal Mexicans are willing to take on menial jobs, daily. Thus, politicians acquiesce to violation of federal minimum wage and immigration laws, including Rep. Miller. Otherwise, he would have gone after Valley Farm owners. At least, Miller consistently preaches and practices grand hypocrisy. And what’s this contraption about loss of American jobs?
Rep. George Miller ought to see that this issue is resolved forthwith. Acquiescence to modern slavery is a tale that he subscribes to when he turns his head the other way on the illegal use of Mexican farm workers in his own backyard.
