NMITF plans ahead for summer
While a team of triathletes prepares to represent the CNMI in the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games in Palau this July, countless other multi-sport enthusiasts are staying in shape swimming, cycling, and running around Saipan for future on-island races and abroad.
It has already been over a month since the 2005 XTERRA Saipan Championship and 16th Tagaman Triathlon rocked the island with back-to-back races that tested the mettle of international competitors, but plans are already in the works to get local athletes ready for the new season.
Though the specific dates and times are still tentative, organizers of the Northern Marianas Triathlon Federation have already laid the ground work for a series of events that could start as early as a month from now.
Currently, members of the NMITF are discussing dates and times for an abbreviated distance triathlon to be held within the next four weeks to help prepare Team Pepsi for the trials of the Palau race in July.
Cyclists can also take comfort in recent reports from the Marianas Visitors Authority that confirmed the possibility of the return of the Tinian bike race next month as well, but no specifics were yet available.
There is also good news for those who have never entered a triathlon before, as organizers are planning to bring back the NMITF Enticer Series. Last year, the NMITF held a series of races designed to prepare aspiring triathletes for the Tinian Turquoise Blue Triathlon this past February. This year, the organization is aiming to get an early start to get people ready for the Rota Blue Triathlon scheduled for this November.
While the NMITF officers will still have to approve the schedule and have to make sure their schedule doesn’t conflict with other events, organizers also expect to bring back the Kids Tryathlon Series as well—possibly as soon as August.
