Two beats One to earn third win in Masters
The wily veterans of the Saipan Masters delegation to Guam has met with mixed success over the course of the past few days, as both teams have combined for a 3-3 record following Monday’s round of action at Paseo Stadium—the only problem is that only one of the squads has experienced all of the winning.
The trend continued when the Saipan Masters II downed their fellow hardballers from the Commonwealth by a score of 14-11, but the surprise was that they had to rally from an 8-5 deficit to do so.
George Castro was cruising along atop the mound for Saipan Masters I, and it seemed that the 0-2 squad would finally break into the win column at the expense of their island-mates, but a two-run single by Mel Teregeyo sent Ben Dueñas across home plate to tie the game at eight apiece followed by Bob Lizama for the go ahead score.
Aside from scoring the game-tying run, Dueñas picked up the win on the mound—his second in the tournament.
While the two teams have only combined for two wins as a unit in the Saipan Major League, they seem to be holding their own in the Guam tourney. The only question is whether or not they can continue through the weekend’s championship.
