Action continued to heat up at the American Memorial Park as the fourth day of competition of the 2005 Powerade Team Tennis Tournament concluded Monday night.

With fans cheering from the stands and showing their support for their favorite players, Fruit Punch and Lemon Lime engaged in a tough battle, which ended with Fruit Punch knocking down their opponents, 4-2.

Making a strong push for Fruit Punch was tennis standout Daniel Son, who controlled his match against Lemon Lime captain Peter Loyola and won the battle of open players in convincing fashion 8-1.

Nelia Luna and Kazumi Imai also teamed up and punched up another victory for their team, winning their women’s doubles match against Ligaya Paculanang and Maru Dela Torre 8-2, while Matt Buenabajo and Roy Banados found the same success on the men’s doubles corner with an 8-4 trouncing of Marlon Estigoy and Russell Buenaventura. Fellow teammates Elmer Guzman and George Poquiz also had their way for Fruit Punch and defeated Dodong Espanola and Ruben Leynes in the men’s doubles.

The two wins for Lemon Lime came courtesy of the play of Joy Minor and Espanola in the mixed doubles and Perry Cacdac and Alfredo Quiroz in the men’s doubles.

Minor and Espanola cruised to an 8-3 victory over Bert Ventura and Sadako Arriola, while Cacdac and Quiroz stopped Dennis Macatangay and Jonathan Frasco by the same score.

Later in the evening, Ed Johnson pitted his Team Mango against Richard Asuncion and Strawberry-Melon, with Mango taking the series, 3-2.

Nanding Cajigan and youth sensation Mayuko Arriola put their minds and skills together to squeeze past Asuncion and Sally Cacdac, 8-6, in another mixed doubles thriller, while Didith Julve and Noel Dognidon did the same with an 8-7 win over Mr. Yu and Gerald Narciso.

Also having their way were Nanding Cajigan and John Jenkins, who faced a tough battle against Sam Apostol and Eli Aguilar but managed to leave on the winning side, 8-4.

Strawberry-Melon had their moments as Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Tim Quan powered his way past Johnson 8-1 and the duo of Sally Wong and Aki Gotunda got past Lenny Panteleon and Young Son, 8-6.
