Man On The Street
For any government or country that proposes for a unicameral body, the only thing that’s on my mind is that there should be no bias when it comes to serving the people. My concern as a Precinct I representative is that this should remove the mentality of serving only your precinct. If what happened in Puerto Rico is also adopted in the CNMI, we will save money.

There will be a lot of adjustments among the people and the political system if that happens to the CNMI. We should have more understanding of the unicameral system. We should carefully learn the difference. The government should sit down on it to assess the situation.

If that happens to us, we will be able to save money. Imagine how many representatives we have in the CNMI. There are lots of brains in the Legislature; that gets a lot of commotion. For me, a few brains, yes, maybe there would be disagreements but they would be able to work that out.

In my personal capacity and opinion, I believe that, if that happens, it would not be good for us, for the Commonwealth. The Constitution was founded based on consideration of Tinian and Rota, to have a voice in the Constitution. That may result to losing the strength of Rota and Tinian’s voice.

There is imbalance in the Legislature. If that will happen to the CNMI, it will reduce all the unnecessary expenses in the Legislature. There are so many representatives and we don’t need that. They should change the Constitution.
