Dennis Camacho pulled the rug from under erstwhile-undefeated Robert Ramirez to win Top Pool Bar’s 8-Ball Amateur Tournament held last July 9 at the Garapan sports bar.

Camacho won his first three matches against Gary Chisato, Dirk Camacho, and Ben Quitugua before getting the shorter end of the stick in his encounter with eventual winners’ bracket topnotcher Ramirez.

Relegated to losers’ bracket play, however, didn’t dampen Camacho’s enthusiasm as he bounced back against Jay Santos to arrange a rematch with Ramirez.

Undaunted by his tormentor’s twice-to-beat advantage, Camacho threw caution to the wind and managed to surprise Ramirez in Game 1 that forced the finals to a winner-take-all second game.

Camacho then pressed on his advantage, as he capitalized on critical miscues by his opponent to complete the comeback and spoil Ramirez’s title aspirations. Camacho bagged $50 for the win, while Ramirez and Santos settled for gift certificates from Top Pool Bar.

Other up-and-coming pool players that entered the competition were Joey Tudela, Jose Castro, Marlon Cabrera, Jun Quitugua, B.J. Soriano, Jon Teregeyo, Hiro Kamei, David Cepeda, Owen Travilla, and Gentry Williams.

The 8-ball pool competition is held every Friday beginning at 8pm. It is open only to players 18 years old and above and participation is free.
