Malasarte: All systems go for Sunday opening
No less than MDX president Bong Malasarte has assured basketball lovers on island that the much anticipated 2005 MDX Amateur Radio Club Inter-Color Basketball League would kick off at 3pm this Sunday, July 24, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The second MDX league was originally set to get underway last July 10, but was postponed for a couple of weeks because the uniforms of the participating teams were still not available, according to Malasarte.
“We want to start this basketball league on the right foot and that was the reason why we decided to just push the opening two more weeks to give participating teams time to get their uniforms,” he said.
But before any of the eight teams parade with their spanky new uniforms on opening day, Malasarte has scheduled a final meeting for all team representatives this Friday, July 22, 6pm at the Filipino Community Center on the ground floor of the Nauru Building in Susupe.
Defending champion Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense leads this year’s list of teams competing in the MDX cagefest. Others in the mix include Pooh Deni, which is made up of players from reigning 2004 United Filipino Orgnizaton Basketball League champion Visminda; Saipan Ice & Water 20th Anniversary Basketball League champion Diamond Fixers; Micronesian Brokers, Inc.; Samahang Manggagawang Filipino; Cabalen; Subway; and Mobil.
Malasarte said that it is very important that a representative from each participating team attend Friday’s meeting, since the final preparations for Sunday’s opening would be discussed. He also reminded participating teams to submit their final team rosters as soon as possible.
