JSTA leads cleanup of Paseo de Marianas
The Japan Saipan Travel Association conducted its quarterly cleanup at the Paseo de Marianas and the entire district last Saturday to make Garapan more attractive to tourists.
Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Vicky Benavente said the group wanted to ensure that the areas frequently visited by tourists are prepared to welcome them for their summer vacation.
She said there were 143 participants during the cleanup, all made up of members of JSTA, the Hotel Association of the NMI, and various government agencies. She said participants were divided into several groups to cover most of the places in Garapan.
Benavente said the cleanup was part of JSTA’s quarterly program.
The group said the tourism industry in the CNMI, which is dominated by Japanese tourists, is at a difficult time right now. That’s why those who work in the tourism industry in the Commonwealth, as well as the entire CNMI community, should be aware of how important it is to maintain facilities, it said.
Benavente said the next JSTA cleanup would be scheduled sometime in December in preparation for the holiday season. MVA and JSTA are encouraging the community to join in on the efforts to make the islands more pleasant and more welcoming.
