Comedian to entertain Saipan in ARC’s Club 200 this Sept. 17
Organizers of this year’s American Red Cross Club 200 event will bring in Hawaii’s favorite entertainer, Frank De Lima, during the organization’s fundraising night, dubbed Comedy Club 200, on Sept. 17.
“We want to keep it alive. People will laugh a lot. It’s going to be very fun,” said Club 200 co-chair Steve Brock during a press briefing at the Governor’s Office yesterday.
De Lima, considered “a master of spoofery and witty parody, is a musical comedian who is voted “favorite entertainer in Hawaii year after year.”
De Lima, a mix of Portuguese, Hawaiian, Irish, Scottish, English, Spanish, French, and Chinese, appears on stage in the role of an “equal opportunity insulter, shooting with a rapid-fire zinging of multi-racial quips labeled by locals as “Portagee” jokes.”
Club 200 co-chair Tanya Camacho called on individuals and businesses to take part in this worthy cause.
“ARC uses the funds for health and safety trainings and disaster relief services,” she said, noting that the CNMI ARC chapter donated a total of $1.5 million last year for typhoon Chaba.
Club 200 tickets are now available for sale at $200 each.
In yesterday’s meeting, the ARC team sold two tickets to Gov. Juan N. Babauta and left him with 100 tickets more to sell. The governor said he and Lt. Gov. Diego T. Benavente would sell the tickets.
“I’m more than willing to offer my help to ARC. The American Red Cross has always been very responsive to the community, especially in times of disaster,” said the governor.
Brock said ARC raised $135,000 last year and it hopes to raise the same amount this year.
ARC’s 18th Club 200 annual event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Saipan, from 5pm to 10pm.
A rundown of the prizes that will be given away during the fundraising dinner will be announced later.
